ACAMIS 2015

On March 13th-14th, 2015 the ACAMIS Spring Conference was hosted at AISG.  This was the first year that the conference, which is for administrators, leaders, and specialists, had a strand for Technology Directors.  The entire AISG technology coaching team was very active in the planning and implementation of the session which allowed participants to discuss areas such as Office 365 implementation, social media in ACAMIS schools, and Locally hosted solutions.  Shannon Doak led the Social Media in Acamis session which introduced two tools currently used at AISG, Yammer, and  WeChat.  Shannon also participated in the session about locally hosted solutions where he spoke about WordPress and OwnCloud.

NCCT Internationalism Conference 2014

On November 14th, Shannon Doak represented the American International School of Guangzhou (AISG) at the 2014 Internationalism of Basic Education Conference, hosted by the National Center for Curriculum Study and Textbook Development (NCCT) of the China Ministry of Education. Shannon presented a very inspiring talk titled, Technology Integration for Education. In his presentation Shannon defined educational technology, explained why technology integration is important, reviewed emerging theories of learning that support technology integration and shared examples of how AISG is moving forward with technology-rich learning environments. One NCCT representative stated that he was inspired by Shannon’s presentation to take action towards greater technology integration at his school.

EDTECH-GZ

In November, the American International School of Guangzhou hosted an event titled EDTECH-GZ. The event was created for schools in the region to come together and learn from each other.  Shannon Doak presented a 45-minute session to about 25 participants.  The focus of his presentation was blogging with younger students in a shared iPad classroom and included the use of the transformative iPad application Easy Blog Jr which was adopted last school year after the Chinese New Year holiday.

PD SESSION

On October 7th, 2014, Robert Bauer and Shannon Doak, ran a PD session centered around Microsoft Office365. This is Microsoft’s answer to Google Docs. Many schools around the globe have adopted Google Apps for Education because of the collaborative nature of the platform. Here in China we now have an alternative that allows for the same kind of collaborative learning environment. Teachers were able to learn about collaborative document creation and editing. They had fun contributing to collaborative restaurant reviews. This activity highlighted the collaborative nature of Office 365 and gave the participants a chance to actually work with it. After the teachers worked with it a discussion session took place where teams talked about how this could be useful to them. They then completed a survey to share what they came up with.

Specialist Workshop

On October 6th, 2014 Shannon Doak, AISG ES Technology Coach held a special 2-hour long session with specialist teachers about cloud computing. Participants were introduced to the idea of cloud computing and also learned about our very own “cloud” server hosted here on Ersha. The morning session had multimedia components and interactive activities that helped the teachers better understand how Own Cloud could assist them in the classroom.

ISKL iPad Workshop

On the weekend of September 27th, 2014 the International School of Kuala Lumpur held and iPad Conference. The conference had an attendance of over 250 participants. AISG had two people

represented at this conference. David Ma, a Chinese teacher at the Elementary School, attended as a conference participant. Shannon Doak the ES Technology Coach, attended as a presenter. Shannon, presented 2, 1 hour long workshops, an extended 2-hour long workshop and also presented in the Speed Geeking session.
